Today in History: Oliver Hardy Died in North Hollywood

The legendary comedic performer passed away 54 years ago today.

On August 7, 1957, legendary actor Oliver Hardy, one half of the Laurel & Hardy comedy duo, passed away in North Hollywood at the age of 65.

Hardy was a longtime in Toluca Lake, owned a home in Van Nuys for many years and also ran a theater, The Fun Factory at 14155 Magnolia Blvd., with his partner, Stan Laurel, where they would try out their routines to live audiences before taking them to the silver screen. Laurel and Hardy made over 100 films together over a 30-year partnership and remained the closest of friends until Hardy's death at the age of 65. He suffered a severe stroke in 1956 and about a year later passed away at his mother-in-law's house on Auckland Avenue in North Hollywood.
